PIT Community @ Northeastern: "How can cities use AI?"

Local boston area initiative at Northeastern University, a Public Interest Technology University Network member, to combat AI by bridging academia and public interest technology. In “How can cities use AI? These professors are creating guidelines for how artificial intelligence could be used for public interest,” Erin Kataya discusses the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and public interest technology (PIT), focusing on the need for collaboration between the two fields to address societal challenges. The piece highlights Northeastern University's efforts at this intersection of AI and PIT by developing an interdisciplinary approach to PIT education and research. Professors Dan O’Brien and Kim Lucas, were awarded a Network Challenge Grant to support work on AI use in the City of Boston with students at Northeastern. In this work, students gain necessary skills to become “technology translators” in a variety of STEM-related positions, including those in public service.
